Mahindra has once again redefined the fiercely competitive compact SUV segment with the launch of the XUV 3XO. More than just a facelift of the popular XUV300, the 3XO emerges as a heavily revamped and feature-loaded contender that is hard to ignore, offering a compelling blend of style, space, safety, and technology previously unseen at this price point.

Design: Aggressive Stance, Modern Appeal

The first thing that grabs attention is the XUV 3XO’s striking new design language. It adopts a much more aggressive and modern look compared to its predecessor. The front fascia is dominated by a completely new grille, flanked by sharp LED projector headlamps and distinctive C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). At the rear, the connected LED taillamp setup makes a strong visual statement, giving the SUV a premium and wide appearance. While the design is polarising for some, its muscular styling and prominent road presence ensure it stands out in a crowd.

Feature-Rich Cabin: A Class Apart

Step inside, and the focus shifts to a cabin that aims for premiumness and is absolutely loaded with technology. The highlight is the new dual-screen setup, featuring a large 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a matching 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster.

However, the 3XO truly shines with its segment-first and segment-leading features:

  • Panoramic Sunroof: This is a major attraction, making the cabin feel exceptionally airy and open, and is the largest in its class.
  • Level 2 ADAS: Available on top variants, the inclusion of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Keep Assist is a significant safety and technology jump for the segment.
  • Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control: Another segment-first that elevates passenger comfort.
  • Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold: Adds a touch of convenience and premium appeal.
  • Premium Audio: A Harman Kardon sound system (on top variants) with a subwoofer and amplifier ensures a rich audio experience.

The cabin is notably spacious, a strong carry-over from the XUV300’s wide body, offering generous legroom for all five occupants. The boot space, while not class-leading, is a usable 364 litres.

Performance and Powertrains: Power-Packed Options

Mahindra offers the XUV 3XO with three potent engine options, ensuring there’s a configuration for every driving style:

  1. 1.2L Turbo-Petrol (TCMPFi): Produces 110 hp and 200 Nm.
  2. 1.2L T-GDi Turbo-Petrol: A more powerful unit delivering an impressive 129 hp and 230 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful petrol engines in the segment.
  3. 1.5L Diesel: Delivers 115 hp and a segment-leading 300 Nm of torque, known for its strong low-end grunt.

Transmission choices include 6-speed Manual, a 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic (for the petrols), and a 6-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) marketed as ‘AutoSHIFT+’ (for the diesel). The powerful petrol engines, especially the T-GDi, offer a zippy and fun-to-drive experience, while the diesel provides excellent fuel efficiency and effortless torque.

Safety: Setting the Benchmark

Building on the XUV300’s foundation, the XUV 3XO continues to prioritise safety. It is equipped with 6 airbags as standard and carries a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP/Bharat NCAP, giving buyers peace of mind. The addition of Level 2 ADAS on the top-end further solidifies its position as a segment safety leader.

Verdict

The Mahindra XUV 3XO is a strong, well-rounded comeback from the Indian automaker. It directly addresses the shortcomings of its predecessor, particularly in terms of design and feature list. With its aggressive pricing (starting from $\text{₹} 7.28$ Lakh ex-showroom) and a comprehensive list of high-end features like a Panoramic Sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, and Dual-Zone AC, the XUV 3XO offers unparalleled Value for Money in the compact SUV space.

While some interior plastic parts could benefit from a higher-quality finish and the AMT in the diesel is not the smoothest, the overall package—combining segment-best safety, powerful engines, and an unmatchable feature list—makes the Mahindra XUV 3XO an extremely compelling choice and a true segment disruptor. It’s a compact SUV that truly feels like it’s punching above its weight class.
